@nintendobenzo @TommyMarion10 @ChairoMan17 the value of the map--and the reason all the work is worth doing--is to provide an extremely detailed account of the result by precinct. it becomes very hard to see that detail with a dot map — PolitiTweet.org

@nintendobenzo @TommyMarion10 @ChairoMan17 it's a great map; but it's not very useful for telling whether a precinct is more or less democratic than another nearby — PolitiTweet.org

@TommyMarion10 @ChairoMan17 when trudeaump is prime minister of canada and he starts showing off that canada is bigger than the US on the world map, maybe we'll start doing defense budget bubble maps instead — PolitiTweet.org

@TommyMarion10 @ChairoMan17 it's not misleading; it's a different objective. the map can show you how places vote in great detail. if you shade by population instead of vote share, you've sacrificed the value of the map to achieve some other purpose — PolitiTweet.org

@TommyMarion10 @ChairoMan17 tbh i can't find my own county. i have no idea. it's useless for the thing that this map is useful for — PolitiTweet.org

@TommyMarion10 @ChairoMan17 it's a fine map, it's just comically worse for the objective at hand: showing you how *places vote* in great detail. good luck easily finding your neighborhood with the precinct version of this thing. i can barely find my own county! — PolitiTweet.org

Something tells me that the Rand McNally inbox isn't full of people complaining that the roads in cities should be larger/longer to properly account for lower speed limits/traffic. Makes it seem so easy to drive across LA! https://t.co/tMDEqCy7ee — PolitiTweet.org

Matt Seitz @seitz2all

@Nate_Cohn Please stop doing maps that ignore population levels. People vote, not land.

I can imagine a way to reconcile it all. Maybe one should assume it votes Democratic in presidential elections, as it would in a FL Senate election, but would be quite competitive with a Puerto Rican Republican Senate candidate. But I don't know why I'd assume that, either — PolitiTweet.org

For one, gubernatorial politics in the US are only loosely correlated with federal politics (see: the GOP gov. of MA/VT/MD; Dems in LA/KY). For another, plenty of Puerto Ricans have moved to the US, and they vote quite Democratic in federal elections — PolitiTweet.org

I'm not an expert on Puerto Rican politics. In fact, I may as well know nothing. Perhaps for for that reason, I don't understand why PR gubernatorial races, etc. are taken as a strong indicator of its likely partisanship after hypothetical admission to the union — PolitiTweet.org
