@reckless @davezatz yeah i use the Meross one that doesn’t require Homebridge anymore. much happier than i was with the myQ plugin. Dave, the whole game of DIY smart home is retrofitting, stop kidding yourself. — PolitiTweet.org
dan seifert @dcseifert
@adammiarka @davezatz stops loading camera feeds all the time until you update the plugin. that’s how i know there’s a plugin update — my camera feeds stop loading. — PolitiTweet.org
dan seifert @dcseifert
@davezatz i think the ring plugin breaks/gets updated even more frequently than the myQ one. but i stopped using the myQ one — PolitiTweet.org
dan seifert @dcseifert
it’s not really a new day if you don’t have to update homebridge plugins to get them working again, is it — PolitiTweet.org

@MouaidNight they would have no problem selling tickets. lots of people want to experience a movie in a theater again or for the first time, even if it can be streamed at home. once theaters are safe again, of course. — PolitiTweet.org

@nikouf no. Samsung said it would be shifting away from making smartthings hardware itself, but the platform isn’t going anywhere. other companies can/will/do make SmartThings compatible hardware. — PolitiTweet.org

dan seifert @dcseifert
@benlucier I’d be more inclined towards Hubitat, but my SmartThings instance has been working just fine for what I need and I don’t really want to rock the boat unnecessarily. I use SmartThings for my automations and HomeKit for user facing controls via voice or app. — PolitiTweet.org
dan seifert @dcseifert
@benlucier no, haven’t gone down the Home Assistant rabbit hole and kinda don’t want to. I know it’s very powerful, but I also know it’s not very user friendly :) — PolitiTweet.org
dan seifert @dcseifert
one useful thing I do with a SmartThings motion sensor, which has built in temp: - turn on the space heater in my office when motion is detected AND temp is below a certain threshold - turn off the space heater when motion is not detected for 5 minutes OR temp reaches threshold — PolitiTweet.org
dan seifert @dcseifert
temp sensors can be very useful for a bunch of automations provided the platform allows you the flexibility to use conditional rules and combine them with other sensors. HomeKit’s automations are too weak on their own, hence need for 3rd party apps. — PolitiTweet.org
dan seifert @dcseifert
i’m hesitant to get too excited about this for two reasons: - Amazon Echos have had temp sensors for quite a while, they have limited utility - It’s likely you’ll need a third party app to do anything interesting with this should Apple enable it because the Home app is so bad — PolitiTweet.org
