Clyburn is very smart about politics. But I wonder if people in his community were already pro-Biden and his endorsement reflected those views, as opposed to shaping them. Biden led polls among black voters basically the entire race. — PolitiTweet.org

I know and like Jim Clyburn. But it is possible that some black people in South Carolina choose Biden in part because the two leading candidates at that point didn't seem that electable and didn't have great ties to black voters (Buttigieg, Sanders)? — PolitiTweet.org

It's not clear that any organized group of black people can say anything without it appearing on Fox News as "Democrats take position X," even if no Democrat elected has that stance. Very few elected Dems are for abolishing/defunding police. — PolitiTweet.org

If Spanberger and Clyburn are implying that no House/Senate Dem should call for abolishing/defunding the police, that's a logical position.Being a Dem in Congress means you are part of a team.If they are implying no activist should say that in any election year, that's different. — PolitiTweet.org

Exactly. It is not clear to me that the June/July protests helped Biden. Perhaps they hurt him. But the people who organized and attended them (and came up with abolish/defund the police as a goal) were making that case as their preferred policy, not acting electorally. — PolitiTweet.org

The Trump legal strategy doesn't seem particularly smart, strategic or effective. But that doesn't take away from the fact that it is also undemocratic and racist (so many implications that people in Philadelphia and Detroit in particular improperly voted.) — PolitiTweet.org

.@ezraklein is right here, and I am glad he used such blunt language. COUP. People voted. Biden won. The press is under no obligation to air frivolous vote fraud charges or downplay an undemocratic effort to reverse the results. https://t.co/z3HFUHfMj1 — PolitiTweet.org

The press needs to consider if debating with Republican elected officials over whether Trump won or lost is a useful exercise. It sounds like "no concession, continue meritless lawsuits" is now the GOP position. We should accept that and move on to covering the Biden presidency. — PolitiTweet.org

That Trump lost and people like McConnell and Graham just won new six-year terms and are still behaving like this is a real problem. There is no longer a choice between supporting the president of their party and respecting democratic norms and values. He has lost. — PolitiTweet.org

Biden won. I suppose it is contested in the sense that Trump and a lot of Republicans are contesting the results. But the fact that as far I have seen only 2 of the 53 Republican senators (Murkowski, Romney) will acknowledge Biden's win is distressing. — PolitiTweet.org
