Thus, if we want to admit a large number of refugees/asylees (which I do), then we should increase processing resources. We don't need to accept the current mismatch of entrants to resources. It makes the system look chaotic and undermines public confidence in it. — PolitiTweet.org
Chris Murphy @ChrisMurphyCT
Both these things can be true: We should welcome many refugees and asylees. Our goal should be to match the number of refugees and asylees we admit to the resources we provide to process them, so the system runs in an efficient way instead of an inefficient way. — PolitiTweet.org

But there are still enough Republicans and Democrats in the House to be able to pass a real, meaningful immigration bill. Speaker McCarthy just had to choose to not let the radicals run the show on every issue. — PolitiTweet.org

Yes, there are few suits against these workers and many nonenforceable clauses. But low wage workers don’t know this, so the clause still has impact. Often the company will reference the noncompete or threaten to sue when the worker wants to quit. — PolitiTweet.org

My hope is that a group of Senators can show a bipartisan path forward. Obama, Trump and Biden have all stretched their legal authority to manage a problem created by congressional inaction. It’s time for Congress to lead. — PolitiTweet.org

Biden’s new rules address this problem and I’m heading to border to learn about the impact of Biden’s new policies. But this crisis is a result of congressional inaction - often intentional inaction from many Republicans (mostly in the House) who are rooting for chaos. — PolitiTweet.org

The difference now - explaining why numbers are now higher than 2019 - is mostly that huge numbers of migrants are crossing that cannot be removed. Mexico will not take back migrants from Cuba, Venezuela, Haiti or Nicaragua. Those counties won’t take them back either. — PolitiTweet.org
Chris Murphy @ChrisMurphyCT
Crossings at the border spiked in 2019 under Trump. They only came down because of the pandemic. When the virus abated, the numbers predictably returned to 2019 levels. This doesn’t seem to be a political problem. Numbers were high under R and D Presidents. — PolitiTweet.org
