Laura and I decided to try this since so many of us have been put out of jobs this year. We're trying to raise 10k now, but hopefully we can raise a LOT more than that and fund a lot of great work. Freelancing can be cost prohibitive on the front end - esp if it requires travel — PolitiTweet.org

specifically we're looking to help with the cost of reporting out stories on news deserts, the effect Digital Robber Barons like Google and Facebook have had on our industry, how local news outlets have helped protect their communities from the powerful, etc. — PolitiTweet.org

so hopefully this will make some stories possible to work -- and then be sold for publication. Anyone can apply, but we'd definitely like to encourage laid off, POC, women, and LGBTQ reporters. check out the @savethenews site for more information. — PolitiTweet.org
