Random observation from looking at election results: Last 4 presidents won by forging unique coalitions. Trump, Obama, Bush, Clinton all realigned the electoral map to some degree. The last president to win by inheriting his predecessor’s coalition was George H.W. Bush in 1988. — PolitiTweet.org

Trump cracked the blue wall; Obama pushed Virginia & Colorado in the Dem column; Bush painted Dem stronghold West Virginia red; Clinton won reliably GOP California. Some of this was demographic change but much of it was candidates altering the map. That may happen again in 2020. — PolitiTweet.org
