So if the question is "why did Buttigieg rise and not candidate X?", you should probably limit X to candidates who didn't try to run to their left, which was dominated by Sanders/Warren. Many candidates did run to the left, such as Castro, Beto and Harris (and arguably Booker). — PolitiTweet.org
