I know less about Okinawa than I should. Definitely when I started to learn Japanese formally, I was surprised to find many words I thought were Japanese growing up were...not. I also learned my name was written in an Okinawan way--津嘉山--as opposed to the more Japanese 塚山 — PolitiTweet.org
