Yes. As I point out often, my grandfathers/great uncle served in segregated Japanese American WWII units. One of those units, the 100th battalion, suffered so many casualties after Anzio that it became known as the Purple Heart Battalion. That is truly a "dark and painful" price. — PolitiTweet.org
