Obviously for a democracy to agree to permanent neutrality as a concession to a foreign power would be unacceptable, and for the USA to endorse a solution like that would be appeasement so it was lucky for everyone that there was no quid pro quo just two unilateral moves. — PolitiTweet.org

Interestingly even though the treaty was signed on May 15, 1955 the allied troops didn’t actually leave the country until October 25, 1955 and then parliament made this unilateral neutrality declaration on October 26 and October 26 is now Austria’s national holiday. — PolitiTweet.org
