One issue is that many institutions are too weak or inconstant in the face of stochastic social media pile-ons regardless of political valence. The other is a habit on the left of trying to not only say that certain widely held views are wrong, but that they’re *beyond the pale* — PolitiTweet.org

It’s because only a crank would make this topic the *main* focus of their work, so a lot of the work that gets done on it has a air of crankery. Nonetheless I think there are two real issues here that I will not be publishing any long takes on because I am not a crank. — PolitiTweet.org

The biggest problem with (2) I think isn’t that it’s incipient totalitarianism but the reverse — it’s never been easier to evade gatekeepers so boundary policing is largely ineffectual. But telling people with normal views they’re rancid rightwingers is very counterproductive. — PolitiTweet.org
