In Hancock County, ME (the only place I know anything about) the sheriff’s deputies would be too slow to respond to calls if they stayed around the station in Ellsworth, so they circulate in cars. Once they are doing that, it makes sense for them to handle traffic enforcement. — PolitiTweet.org
