@matthewstoller Funny you link to your Substack post to make your point, because without Section 230 I don’t see how Substack could survive as a business. If FB thought your post was unfair they could sue Substack, who would likely just take it down rather than fight an expensive legal battle — PolitiTweet.org

Imagine what repealing § 230 would do to services like Substack and Medium. I don't see how these companies could stay in business if they could get sued for anything anyone publishes on their platform — PolitiTweet.org

@PurgeWashington @ren_tragger @evan_greer MeToo isn’t misinformation and lies, but it would get censored too. Also think of companies like Medium or Wordpress: they just wouldn’t be able to operate anymore,l because they couldn’t be legally liable for ALL their customers’ blog posts, including posts from survivors — PolitiTweet.org

@PurgeWashington @ren_tragger @evan_greer Yes there were. And Weinstein still would've sued Twitter to prevent people from talking about it and learning about it, and without 230 Twitter would've been on the hook to legally defend themselves. You can file a lawsuit without having facts on your side, you know. — PolitiTweet.org

@PurgeWashington @ren_tragger @evan_greer Section 230 doesn’t allow social media companies to get sued for publishing misinfo or lies. It allows ANY site to get sued over ANY user-generated content. So yes, without 230 Weinstein would’ve sued Twitter and Twitter would’ve avoided the legal fight censoring MeToo — PolitiTweet.org

@zaron5551 Section 230 isn't just Twitter, Facebook, and Google, it's everything on the internet. Online reviews, videos, comments on a random blog (comments in general on any website for that matter)- all of these are user-generated. Section 230 protects it all from arbitrary censorship — PolitiTweet.org

@PurgeWashington @evan_greer Section 230 protects Twitter from getting sued for what its users post. Without it, if someone doesn't like your tweet they can sue Twitter and regardless of the merits of their case it will be cheaper for Twitter to censor your tweet than to defend themselves in court — PolitiTweet.org

If Section 230 is repealed like Trump wants (which would destroy internet free speech as we know it) we should immediately file class-action lawsuits against Facebook and Twitter for contributing to 336k COVID-19 deaths by spreading misinformation from Trump and conservative news — PolitiTweet.org
