my fav thing to do is go into our creators reporting slack room and ask them questions about mid-2000s internet things to see if they know what i’m talking about — PolitiTweet.org

@nirave @jareddipane @gigastacey my set up is: Hue Hub/Lutron Hub > SmartThings hub > Alexa/Google Assistant separately, both the Lutron and Hue hubs are tied into HomeKit — PolitiTweet.org

@nirave @jareddipane @gigastacey i connect Hue through ST to both Alexa and Google Assistant so i can access any other ST gadgets i have set up. otherwise, i’d have dupes of every light which is a huge pain. — PolitiTweet.org

@nirave @jareddipane @gigastacey you can also control Hue lights with non-Hue motion sensors via SmartThings, which is what I’m doing in my home office. An ST multipurpose sensor can detect motion/temp, so i have two diff automations for the lights and the fan running off the one sensor. — PolitiTweet.org

@nirave @jareddipane @gigastacey I do, but if you just want to control a light (and do nothing else), Philips makes some very reliable motion sensors that are super easy to install and set up. I have one controlling the lights in my laundry room because the wall switch is behind the damn door — PolitiTweet.org

@prjct92eh2 @gigastacey the technical backend stuff is beyond my level of comprehension, but i’m bummed they haven’t figured out a way to back up the ZWave/Zigbee pairings to the cloud so they can be seamlessly restored — PolitiTweet.org

@nirave @jareddipane @gigastacey oh and it shuts off when there’s no motion for 15 mins or the temp drops below 70. can’t really do things that without a strong automation platform. — PolitiTweet.org

@nirave @jareddipane @gigastacey it’s very good for true automation, where things just happen when you open a door or walk into a room or when the temp in specific room hits a certain point. in my home office, i have a smart plug on a fan that only comes on when there’s A) motion and B) temps above 70F — PolitiTweet.org

@nirave @jareddipane @gigastacey (my general rec is to stick with the same brand of devices for each category, so all Hue lights, or all Lifx, etc) — PolitiTweet.org

@jareddipane @nirave @gigastacey it’s very powerful for smart home automations. But it’s not the most user friendly thing. — PolitiTweet.org

@jareddipane @nirave @gigastacey yes, that’s the easy way to transfer Wifi devices. but if you have smart home gadgets paired to the SmartThings hub in the ST Wifi, you’ll have to manually reset all of them — PolitiTweet.org

@crazypills3 it’s an 8-inch screen, but i also tested on another car with 7-inch Pioneer head unit and the experience is basically the same. iOS 13 still has a ton of formatting/text size/word wrapping bugs that i expect to be addressed by the time this comes out in the fall — PolitiTweet.org
