The departure of a few tech companies won't doom the Bay Area, but our declining appeal to early-stage companies & the entrepreneurs that drive them will. We need to reduce those barriers & stop blaming tech. Check out my latest @sfchronicle Op-ed: https://t.co/65UdMgAm8I. — PolitiTweet.org

@harpsicordelia @claudsDC We disagree. So do most of our residents—including the great majority of immigrant residents w/ whom I’ve discussed the issue. Immigrants are disproportionately victimized by violence, & many have told me they would rather not have violent felons back in their neighborhood — PolitiTweet.org

@harpsicordelia @claudsDC ICE already has access to arrest and conviction records at courts. So, they can either pick violent felons up at the jail, or they can go into our neighborhoods to terrify our otherwise law-abiding undocumented neighbors. I’d much rather that ICE stayed out of our neighborhoods — PolitiTweet.org

@harpsicordelia @claudsDC Actually, deportation decisions are made by administrative law judges by far lower standards of evidence (preponderance & clear & convincing) than required in a criminal proceeding (beyond reasonable doubt). US Supreme Court has upheld that approach for many decades — PolitiTweet.org

@harpsicordelia @claudsDC Absolutely, I stand by all of them. SJPD doesn’t need to be communicating with ICE—it’s a decision for the County jail. Doesn’t involve anyone policing in the community. My undocumented neighbors have nothing to fear b/c overwhelmingly, they don’t commit violent felonies. — PolitiTweet.org

@harpsicordelia @claudsDC No, i don’t. Because that’s false. But SJPD Chief Garcia & I did urge that County authorities treat arrestees who have previously committed violent felonies differently from nonviolent undoc’d arrestees, which could have prevented 3 homicides in those 2 instances alone — PolitiTweet.org
