Just rewatched ep 3 of #GOT on HBO GO on an Apple TV powered by @verizonfios. It was much, much better visually than last night when I watched it on my Comcast cable box is the same TV - even though I set the TV to less aggressive brightness. https://t.co/ZbK8Uz5tQz — PolitiTweet.org

@chillmage Switched my LG OLED to “Vivid” for GOT. Then switched back immediately after. Last week, I forgot to switch back and my wife complained that everything on some lesser show she was watching looked green. — PolitiTweet.org

@benedictevans 2/ It’s the war between the tinkerers/techies, and the vast majority of tech consumers. The former value their ability to alter a device or a software platform in any way they choose. The latter value simplicity, reliability, security, & software variety protected by curation. — PolitiTweet.org
Walt Mossberg @waltmossberg
@benedictevans 1/ I agree 100%. And I consider all your arguments correct. But this exposes an age-old rift in tech. You know what it is, and it doesn’t just involve data brokers and malware distributors and Russian hackers. It goes back at least to the 1984 attacks on the Mac and Steve Jobs. — PolitiTweet.org

@chrisfralic As my friend @stevesi, a person I greatly admire, knows, I preferred simpler software to cleverer attempts at tech support. In my review of Word 97, where Clippy debuted, I praised several new features that made writing simpler. But I trashed Clippy, as this screen grab shows. https://t.co/G2N79soewx — PolitiTweet.org

A beautiful but sad essay on today’s synagogue shooting by David Shribman, who was editor of the @PittsburghPG newspaper when the massive synagogue shooting occurred there last year. The coverage he oversaw back then just won a Pulitzer Prize. https://t.co/eql0b6rIgj — PolitiTweet.org

@stevesi @withfries2 @a16z 2/2 This predilection among IT managers is one reason they hated the Mac. Tech support was vastly lower on Macs. — PolitiTweet.org

@stevesi @withfries2 @a16z 1/ Don’t know why this product didn’t succeed, but, in that period, the IT departments at work had great power to sway tech choices not only in the office, but at home. And their influence was squarely behind complex products which created the most need for their services. — PolitiTweet.org

@bravo0123 @stevesi @withfries2 @a16z Depends on the kind of writing and collaboration you do. — PolitiTweet.org
Walt Mossberg @waltmossberg
@stevesi @withfries2 @a16z I think apps with fewer features can thrive. Google Docs is a good example. It’s hardly perfect, but succeeds by having only the most common features, plus a collaborative work flow that, IMO, far outstrips Track Changes in Office. The Clippy video was fantastic, BTW. Congrats. — PolitiTweet.org

@stevesi @withfries2 @a16z To me, as a reviewer devoted to ease of use, simpler was always better than nerdier. I loved the Wizards in MS Publisher. I loved Apple’s attitude of always trying to elevate simplicity. But I wrote all those columns extolling simplicity in Word, using maybe 15% of its features. — PolitiTweet.org
Walt Mossberg @waltmossberg
@stevesi @withfries2 @a16z Looking forward to the video. Clippy was done with good intent. But the tech wasn’t there, so it was dumb and annoying. I was always bugging you instead for a much simpler Word, stripped of esoteric features. And you always insisted different users valued different tools. — PolitiTweet.org

@stevesi @jasondunn And yet, the crash project didn’t really provide a simple experience. And, even beyond the email issue, Outlook became way too bloated, IMO. So far from the sleek, smart prototype I first saw. — PolitiTweet.org
Walt Mossberg @waltmossberg
@stevesi @jasondunn The funny thing about Outlook was that it was so damn promising as a concept. I remember being really impressed with the ingenuity of the idea when it was first shown to me in Redmond. But, by the time I got a real review copy, it was a mess. Especially internet-based email. — PolitiTweet.org
