Be like Alan. Get a mail ballot application on paper or online. And send it in pronto. Then, when you get your mail ballot, you can avoid postal backups by dropping the ballot off at curbside dropboxes or offices controlled by election authorities. — PolitiTweet.org

@skap5 These counties can be huge and their school boards are powerful. For instance, both Fairfax County in VA and Montgomery in MD have 150,000-200,000 kids in their school systems and school budgets of $2-3 billion. The county govts mostly tinker around the edges of the budgets. — PolitiTweet.org
Walt Mossberg @waltmossberg
@skap5 In many states outside New England, the city or town government doesn’t run the schools, Saul. In lots of places, they’re run by independent school districts, with taxing power, that can cross city lines. In Maryland and Virginia, and elsewhere, the schools are run by counties. — PolitiTweet.org

Vote early! Reduce the time to get election results. Fill out your mail ballot and return it quickly, preferably in a drop-off box or office run by election authorities. OR, if you’re voting in person, vote early. Here are the dates for that in each state. https://t.co/RCCof8afmD — PolitiTweet.org

@JBFlint @JorisGriffioen @kenli729 @PBS streaming app shows you just one ad, at the beginning of a show, for 30 seconds. I can deal with that. Maybe all should copy. And of course the toxic ad tech practice of stealing your privacy should be made illegal. I pay extra on services like @hulu for no ads. — PolitiTweet.org
Walt Mossberg @waltmossberg
@JBFlint @JorisGriffioen @kenli729 I’m not against ads per se. They paid my salary for years. But the TV model of interrupting what you’re watching to sell you stuff or of showing you unskippable ads at all in TV for which you’ve paid a subscription fee has begun to seem intolerable to me. A new model is needed. — PolitiTweet.org

@jsnell @JakeBernsteinWA @reneritchie Appreciate that. But what do you mean by “called in”? Nobody asked me to tweet what I did. Every tweet I post, smart or dumb, is on my own volition and contains only my own thoughts. So what did you mean by “called in”? — PolitiTweet.org
Walt Mossberg @waltmossberg
@jsnell @JakeBernsteinWA @reneritchie You seem to think I’m arguing with you, Jason. I’m not. I’m arguing with the wealthy companies that seem to want to pay little or no merchant fee and evade Apple security and privacy review. But also agreeing it may be time to revise the system while maintaining user protection. — PolitiTweet.org
Walt Mossberg @waltmossberg
@JakeBernsteinWA @jsnell @reneritchie 2/ I value Apple’s curation for security & privacy reasons. BUT, there are legit questions about Apple’s (and Google’s) App Store. Is the 30% too much today? Are the rules the same for all and fully transparent? And is there a new way to sell in-app goods while protecting users? — PolitiTweet.org
Walt Mossberg @waltmossberg
@JakeBernsteinWA @jsnell @reneritchie 1/ It isn’t “skimming” and it isn’t a “tax”. Every merchant has been taking a cut forever. And that’s what this is. And, in 2008, it was a dramatically lower cut than was common at the time. So these are loaded words used to inflame people, like “death tax” for the “estate tax”. — PolitiTweet.org
