@vfroloff I thought the article mentioned before and after. At a minimum, Zelensky publicly talked about not joining NATO in Feb or March as a possible concession. — PolitiTweet.org

@MarkHertling Not sure that is true. The reporting in this article indicates that Ukraine is focused on retaking Kherson as well, there is just greater resistance. The number of tanks Ukraine lost two weeks ago in Kherson also suggests this. https://t.co/qr1SzyABe7 — PolitiTweet.org

@ColeFPetersen @DefMon3 @shashj @secretsqrl123 Yeah, that's what I said here. I don't think the difference between the rate of advance for units with wheeled and mechanized vehicles is that significant in combat conditions. https://t.co/NBKuwGSKtw — PolitiTweet.org

@RushHou35170891 @DefMon3 @shashj @secretsqrl123 Sorry, I was trying to say that the rate of advance on tracks or wheels will often be the same if there is heavy resistance. The rate of advance was very fast, but certainly achievable with tanks and mechanized vehicles. — PolitiTweet.org

@DefMon3 @IAPonomarenko @shashj @secretsqrl123 Yep, but I think the fast rate of advance can mostly be explained by the use of tanks and mechanized infantry, which becomes more important when you advance deeper with less arty. I think SOF/recon played a key role shaping the situation and leading to chaos for Russian units. — PolitiTweet.org

@DefMon3 @IAPonomarenko @shashj @secretsqrl123 True, but my original point is that the majority of the force involved was heavy and many of the light vehicles and Humvees they're using is because they don't have enough IFVs. I'm not sure they're deliberately going light with all of these units because they're choosing to. — PolitiTweet.org

@IAPonomarenko @DefMon3 @shashj @secretsqrl123 That's what I thought. The breakthrough was done by tanks and mechanized infantry and then recon and SOF pushed ahead to conduct ambushes. It seemed most of the assaults were done with armor while lighter infantry mopped up towns that were bypassed. Does that sound right? — PolitiTweet.org

@DefMon3 @shashj @secretsqrl123 My understanding is that the 14 and 92nd Mechanized Brigades, 3rd and 4th Tank Brigades, 25th Airborne Brigade (on BMP-2), and 80th Air Assault Brigade (BTR and MRAPs) plus TDF and SOF took part. The rate of advance was fast by combat standards but not by normal standards. — PolitiTweet.org

@ChrisO_wiki @SanderRegter @HN_Schlottman Exactly, there are other anecdotes but this is what Russia did to generate units in Chechnya. So the quality of the personnel in "professional" Russian military units is substantially worse than in February. — PolitiTweet.org

@HN_Schlottman So I think there is a lot of variance in LDNR units. The professional unit that began the war were better than most Russian Ground Forces units. But now Russian military units include sailors taken off ships serving as infantrymen, so it is very different from pre-Feb 24. — PolitiTweet.org

@DmitryOpines I think Russia decision-making has been in a stage of strategic procrastination since April. Once they pulled forces from Kyiv, they had little ability to compel Ukraine and force conflict termination. So they just hoped Ukraine or the West would become tired but without a plan. — PolitiTweet.org

@kamilkazani My perception is that many Armenians did not think Azerbaijan could defeat them before 2020 despite the changes in the quality of equipment. I don't think they expected Russia to intervene in such a conflict (aside from possibly additional arms deliveries). — PolitiTweet.org
