@JoeySchwarzkopp I was referring to PzH 2000 when I mentioned NATO artillery. They were used heavily in Kharkiv. — PolitiTweet.org

@hrnext There were not a huge number of Ukrainian troops in Kharkiv. They just used their resources very well. — PolitiTweet.org

This is also strange. A small number of HIMARS significantly disrupted Russia's ability to conduct offensives since early July, and, along with other NATO artillery, played an important role in Ukraine's success in Kharkiv, which is very strong evidence they do make a difference. — PolitiTweet.org

@JayinKyiv Here's the thing, Rosgvardia was supposed to be his force for protecting him domestically, but he deployed much of that force to Ukraine, and it sustained heavy losses too. — PolitiTweet.org

Of course, it also defies logic. There is a significant domestic political risk for Putin if this war fails (which it is). Why would he hold back 40% of Russia's Ground Forces units as Ukraine is conducting offensives in two regions? — PolitiTweet.org

@hemicker We also found out that Russian battalions were very understrength when they invaded. So the capabilities of the battalions in Russia are similarly less than expected. https://t.co/3T76I1zBxJ — PolitiTweet.org

@hemicker ~80% was the initial invasion force, and then Russia pulled another 10-15 BTGs over the next two months from places like Tajikistan, Georgia, Sakhalin, etc. The remaining BTGs almost certainly aren't at full strength and lack equipment. Not sure how deployable they are. — PolitiTweet.org

We knew when the invasion began that Russia was committing the vast majority of its Ground Forces, which would not be available for other operations as long as the war continued. The Russian Air Force has also taken heavy losses and it is using up much of its cruise missiles. — PolitiTweet.org

This is really bizarre. Russia committed ~85% of its BTGs (which includes naval infantry and VDV) by April. Those units took heavy losses, so Russia has depended on volunteers and reservists since then. The 11th Army Corps based in Kaliningrad was just heavily degraded in Kharkiv — PolitiTweet.org

@Noahpinion @PhillipsPOBrien @Blake_Allen13 There are a variety of reasons, but one is that Russia entered Kherson with a large force that dissipated as it pursued several objectives, including Mariupol, Enerhodar, Voznesensk, Kryvyi Rih, etc. Mykolaiv had strong leadership and more time to prepare. — PolitiTweet.org

5,000 Ukrainian troops have completed their training in the United Kingdom. That’s enough personnel to form a full-fledged brigade.
