@jhaaren @kevinroose I’d love that but there’s no good way to make the art update across podcast platforms on time, so it’d be a mess — PolitiTweet.org

There are probably lots of ways to actually implement a law helping parents filter porn from their kids' devices: require those settings to be displayed at setup. Require stores to ask if the device is to be used by a kid, and then set up the filters. But instead: posturing! — PolitiTweet.org
nilay patel @reckless
It's so strange that one of the two major parties in the United States is entirely devoted to posturing, instead of doing anything. Everyone can say they voted for this anti-porn bill, but it is structured so that it will never take effect! https://t.co/o5QIQE7lJr — PolitiTweet.org

@IAmRunes Maybe! I can see how to write the other side of that argument and there’s no precedent for it, so you’re looking at court cases in various circuits for years, at the least — PolitiTweet.org
nilay patel @reckless
Trying to decentralize value creation in art by creating a proxy for art without any connection to the law that creates the value in the art... yeah. Court cases and cash. It just doesn’t end in any other way. Thank you for indulging my Weekend Tweets. — PolitiTweet.org
nilay patel @reckless
Copyright law, for its many many flaws, is an attempt to value *art itself*. Anyone can copy anything now, but *legally* only the copyright owner of a work can make copies, and that requires the apparatus of the state to function. When you make computers do it, it looks like DRM. — PolitiTweet.org
nilay patel @reckless
What NFTs have accomplished by creating scarcity in *links to art* instead of *art* is a disassociation of value from the art itself - at some point it doesn’t even matter if the art is still on the server, because the value is being exchanged for the link. This is probably bad! — PolitiTweet.org
nilay patel @reckless
Let’s say I rip off your painting and sell it as an NFT. I haven’t actually sold your painting, I’ve sold a URL on a blockchain pointing to a jpeg that might not be there. So is that copyright infringement? Gonna take cash and a court case to find out, sorry artists — PolitiTweet.org
nilay patel @reckless
Great piece by @bijanstephen but I regret to inform you it will lead to tweets about copyright law and how NFTs have no particularly specific relationship to actually owning any creative works at all https://t.co/8vfL2YxKIQ — PolitiTweet.org
