@applelad I'm so sorry. I hope that when all this is over you will be able to meet as a family and grieve properly. People are making huge sacrifices in order to keep others safe and I am afraid that the Government's support for Cummings sends out a terrible message. — PolitiTweet.org

.@BorisJohnson has defended Dominic Cummings' flouting of the #COVID19 rules. There is now an urgent need for the Government to explain to whom these rules apply. It seems that some long distance travellers & 2nd home owners are exempt, whilst for others it's a resigning matter. — PolitiTweet.org

@Bobbysaxophone I'm not berating anyone, it's an observation which many others have also made. I have been very busy collecting prescriptions and shopping for those who have to self-isolate. Thank you, however, for your concern. — PolitiTweet.org

@_AD707 I think the jury's still out on facemasks though. There was plenty of evidence about seatbelts saving lives but I don't see the same for facemasks. If studies show that wearing an ill-fitting or soiled facemask means that distancing rules don't need to be observed I'll rethink. — PolitiTweet.org
Liz McInnes πΉπΊπ¦π @LizMcInnes60
@_AD707 That was my experience, which I recounted last night whilst watching #bbcqt. Judging from the responses I received it's a phenomenon others have observed. The question was about someone wearing a mask whilst serving food: ok if it's clean but if it's not....2/2 — PolitiTweet.org
Liz McInnes πΉπΊπ¦π @LizMcInnes60
@_AD707 I don't agree with your premise that most people are not 2m distant - in my experience most people observe the spacing pretty well. But there was this masked guy blundering around Tesco yesterday, ignoring the one way system and not keeping to 2m apart 1/2 — PolitiTweet.org
Liz McInnes πΉπΊπ¦π @LizMcInnes60
@_AD707 I'm sorry you're disappointed. I've just made the valid point that badly made or soiled masks could cause more harm. You say "anything that reduces the spread, however effective (I think you meant ineffective) is preferable" but ineffective facemasks won't reduce the spread. — PolitiTweet.org
Liz McInnes πΉπΊπ¦π @LizMcInnes60
@_AD707 It's merely an observation, there are issues with masks being made compulsory - they may deplete much needed PPE stores, homemade ones may not be effective, dirty ones may be worse than nothing at all - and there is that false sense of security which others have also observed. — PolitiTweet.org
Liz McInnes πΉπΊπ¦π @LizMcInnes60
The facemask argument is an interesting one. The guy wearing a facemask in Tesco today was the one who was oblivious to 2 metre distancing and ignoring the one way system round the store. The problem is they give a false sense of security to the wearer. #bbcqt — PolitiTweet.org

@buttonbeckster @HenrySmithUK Someone in Crawley keeps electing him! I think his ill-judged tweet shows his lack of understanding of the many roles MPs have - it's not all being on the green benches. Not to mention he seems blissfully unaware of the #Covid_19 pandemic. Lucky him. — PolitiTweet.org

So instead of a Government Minister #Newsnight gets Tobias Elwood, who helpfully suggests that in order for @Keir_Starmer to get a clear answer at #PMQs he should submit his questions in advance! (Wouldn't have worked anyway - he was asking about the ethics, not the costs) 2/2 — PolitiTweet.org
Liz McInnes πΉπΊπ¦π @LizMcInnes60
On a day when @BorisJohnson has been shown to be grossly exaggerating at #PMQs the amount of money brought in by the Immigration Health Surcharge, it comes as no surprise that "No Ministers are available" to appear on #Newsnight @BBCPolitics 1/2 — PolitiTweet.org
