The extraordinary thing about the Oxford vaccine is the 'speed' at which it was delivered - as very well explained in this BBC article, in fact the work has been years in the making. Truly brilliant British science at work: https://t.co/8mzJ2Un8UO — PolitiTweet.org

@cc_jacqueline17 Not saying that - you will have seen I am actively campaigning for an offshore grid to carry offshore generated power, good for country and coastal communities, and good for the sector. This commitment reinforces the move towards that goal, that's the key thing. — PolitiTweet.org

After a Boxing Day when more than half our energy was wind generated for the first time ever, good news in the Brexit deal for those of us wanting more of this power to be carried by undersea cables: p170 commits UK/EU to co-operate on 'offshore grid development'. V positive. — PolitiTweet.org

Definitely a good news day: can confirm Vanners silk in Sudbury has been saved. It will continue to trade under new ownership & crucially the 31 jobs on site will be retained. What a relief for the staff on the cusp of Christmas! Great news for Sudburyβs historic silk industry. — PolitiTweet.org

Delighted we have achieved a deal - a free trade agreement with the EU. In principle, whilst of course we all look forward to the details, it is in our national interest to leave on orderly & mutually agreed terms. Congratulations to the PM, Lord Frost & our negotiating team! — PolitiTweet.org

If heading out by car today please take care - lots of surface water around, rivers bursting banks & encroaching onto roads. Stick to main roads where poss. — PolitiTweet.org
James Cartlidge MP π¬π§ πΊπ¦ @jcartlidgemp
@MJM3003 Fair question but the key point is that our hospitals have many closed beds because of infection control. As covid admissions surge, and are double the March peak in WSH, you proportionately eat up spare capacity much more quickly due to infectiousness, plus staff sickness. — PolitiTweet.org
James Cartlidge MP π¬π§ πΊπ¦ @jcartlidgemp

Moving Suffolk to tier 4 will be a blow for many & nobody wants businesses to be forced to shut their doors. However, with infection spreading so rapidly locally due to the new Covid strain, & leading to sharp growth in hospital admissions, this step is necessary & proportionate. — PolitiTweet.org
James Cartlidge MP π¬π§ πΊπ¦ @jcartlidgemp
Whatever happens to tiers, this all underlines the pattern of what seems to be a new mutation of Covid being transmitted more easily, with all that implies for future growth. It's therefore more important than ever that we all follow the rules of 'hands-face-space'. (3/3) — PolitiTweet.org
James Cartlidge MP π¬π§ πΊπ¦ @jcartlidgemp
So we now have a situation not only of a significant acceleration in Covid infection, but now translating to huge NHS pressure. This is not 'modelling' but real data, with patients being admitted at a rapid rate, putting great pressure on frontline hospital staff. (2/3) — PolitiTweet.org
James Cartlidge MP π¬π§ πΊπ¦ @jcartlidgemp
This AM I spoke to @Nickhulme61 & @SteveDunnCEO CEOs of Ipswich/Colchester & West Suffolk hospitals respectively. They described very concerning levels of admissions from Covid patients in all 3 hospitals, with double the first peak at WSH & a sharp spike at Colchester. (1/3) — PolitiTweet.org
