Joanna Rutkowska @rootkovska
@talex5 Thx, this is super cool! But... please, please, do not ask users to run `tar` on an *untrusted* (wget'ed) .tar.bz2 file in Dom0! — PolitiTweet.org
Joanna Rutkowska @rootkovska
@grsecurity And how do you conclude this is the envisioned use model? @taoeffect — PolitiTweet.org
Joanna Rutkowska @rootkovska
Annoying IoT devices - even if you to keep them in an isolated net, they're still free to use your neighbors open wifi... 'Cause Maxwell. — PolitiTweet.org
Joanna Rutkowska @rootkovska
@grsecurity What specific configs are you talking? Also kindly note Qubes and the Stateless HW are (largely) orthogonal projects. @taoeffect — PolitiTweet.org

@chrisbhoffman May I suggest linking to https://t.co/5RPBhcEw3I instead? — PolitiTweet.org
Joanna Rutkowska @rootkovska
@chrisbhoffman ... the actual solution I'm proposing in "the 2nd paper" released yesterday (not to be confued with the Oct paper). — PolitiTweet.org
Joanna Rutkowska @rootkovska
@chrisbhoffman Also: I used to believe VT-d could be used to constrain ME, but in the x86_harmful paper explain how this is a no-go and why. — PolitiTweet.org
Joanna Rutkowska @rootkovska
Thanks for the write up @chrisbhoffman. Would be great if you used a more up-to-date reference than a 2010 article about Qubes 1.0 though... — PolitiTweet.org
Joanna Rutkowska @rootkovska
I should have anticipated releasing two (different) papers, but sharing the same phrase in the title would get me into troubles ;P — PolitiTweet.org
Joanna Rutkowska @rootkovska
In which Dragos discusses my recent "state harmful" paper... except he confused it with the "x86 harmful" paper ;) https://t.co/UxHMUiE3G9 — PolitiTweet.org
Joanna Rutkowska @rootkovska
@nitrokey Also, what's the actual role of the Nitro Storage device other than acting as a proxy for the OpenPGP card? — PolitiTweet.org
Joanna Rutkowska @rootkovska
@nitrokey Oh, I didn't notice the SC connector at first... So, how can the user verify the SmartCard firmware is not backdoored? — PolitiTweet.org
Joanna Rutkowska @rootkovska
@Regiteric Not quite the label I'd use... Surely not as in: laissez-faire capitalism and unconstrained private power. — PolitiTweet.org
Joanna Rutkowska @rootkovska
@dragosr I think you linked the wrong paper. This is the one advocating the elimination of state: https://t.co/30J74lwlSX — PolitiTweet.org
Joanna Rutkowska @rootkovska
@grsecurity Not sure I follow...? Care to discuss on qubes-devel or secure-desktops? — PolitiTweet.org

Joanna Rutkowska @rootkovska
@nitrokey Thx. Is it fair to say the primary diff between Nitro Storage and USB Armory is the use of internal flash vs. external SD for f/w? — PolitiTweet.org
Joanna Rutkowska @rootkovska
@kaepora Glad to hear that. More stuff coming soon. — PolitiTweet.org
Joanna Rutkowska @rootkovska
@kaepora No prob, I'm used to that ;) Thx. — PolitiTweet.org
Joanna Rutkowska @rootkovska
@nitrokey I sure am, yes. — PolitiTweet.org
Joanna Rutkowska @rootkovska
@kaepora FWIW this is the very _definition_ for the term "trusted". — PolitiTweet.org
Joanna Rutkowska @rootkovska
@nitrokey In that case, again: how do you protect the user keys from being stolen by my arbitrary firmware? — PolitiTweet.org
Joanna Rutkowska @rootkovska
@nitrokey "my firmware" = firmware *I* created with my own randomness? — PolitiTweet.org
Joanna Rutkowska @rootkovska
@nitrokey But then how can I upload *my* arbitrary firmware? — PolitiTweet.org
Joanna Rutkowska @rootkovska
@nitrokey ...which means the following statement on your front webpage is not quite correct. Care to correct? https://t.co/G8bdcHEkGo — PolitiTweet.org
Joanna Rutkowska @rootkovska
@nitrokey Ok, makes sense. But this (arbitrary firmware update) works only for the (yet unreleased) "Storage" model, correct? — PolitiTweet.org
Joanna Rutkowska @rootkovska
@nitrokey I'm looking for schematics more like these: https://t.co/MStwKBeUPZ — PolitiTweet.org
Joanna Rutkowska @rootkovska
@nitrokey How do you enforce it could not be dumped? If I'm allowed to upload arbitrary firmware? — PolitiTweet.org
Joanna Rutkowska @rootkovska
@nitrokey That's only true if you can assure the new firmware is non-compress-able, right? — PolitiTweet.org
