flashback to 2/2 when the WH expressed some confusion that Republicans would actually line up against a bill polling at 75% and w/ $1,400 checks in it. “They’ll get no credit” for those checks, is how one senior administration official put it. https://t.co/9vnKce1aYa — PolitiTweet.org

Biden’s bill is polling at 75%. And yet, there are significant obstacles in selling it to the broader public. 1. Polarization 2. People are gonna forget all about it/may not notice it’s provisions https://t.co/vlZZ79JeIJ — PolitiTweet.org

@tommatzzie @SharonTreat no. i won’t. as the piece notes, the timing+scope of Biden’s bill is different. but the tides of polarization make it harder to sell than, i think, the CW suggests. Also, as the piece notes, people have short memories. a $1,400 check today may not matter as much in Nov. 2022 — PolitiTweet.org

@ilyseh i think it is a bit more nuanced. They did message on stimulus. as Gibbs notes in this item, it was just hard to do so because the economy was still dovetailing for months after the stimulus passed. Biden’s bill may be coming on the upward trajectory, which is beneficial for him — PolitiTweet.org

@TheToddSchulte the other issue that polling shows is people genuinely forget benefits they get from governmment. that might be different because of how massive this bill is. But it’s definitely a phenomnon that folks don’t recall (or straight up deny) benefiting from govt. programs — PolitiTweet.org
