@PetreRaleigh @pareene they are him! he was the outsider to this world as a kid and was both drawn to and repulsed by it — PolitiTweet.org

b-boy bouiebaisse @jbouie

@goldberg_dan @pareene you could do a whole course structured around scorsese, schrader and the coens as our most catholic, protestant and jewish filmmakers, respectively — PolitiTweet.org

b-boy bouiebaisse @jbouie

@goldberg_dan @pareene actually starting up a schrader watch on my own time (cannot convince my wife to follow me down this rabbit hole) — PolitiTweet.org

b-boy bouiebaisse @jbouie

anyway when i eventually write about this scorsese thing i am doing my take will be that MEAN STREETS really does contain within it all the thematic stuff scorsese would pursue and that his most interesting work imho are the films dealing with faith and belief — PolitiTweet.org

b-boy bouiebaisse @jbouie

@maiselish hmm i don’t know if i think that one counts? — PolitiTweet.org

@janecoaston casino is to goodfellas as once upon a time in hollywood is to pulp fiction — PolitiTweet.org

b-boy bouiebaisse @jbouie

well there’s four — MEAN STREETS, GOODFELLAS, CASINO and THE IRISHMAN — and i think they are all very different even as they are variations on a theme (the mob is a black hole that you’ll be lucky to escape with your life) — PolitiTweet.org

b-boy bouiebaisse @jbouie

@ConAirFan it raises important questions about the nature of the film and suggests that the entire thing is an unreliable narration! — PolitiTweet.org

b-boy bouiebaisse @jbouie

@JaySlacks i really loved it my first watch — PolitiTweet.org

b-boy bouiebaisse @jbouie

@ryankelly see, this is what is interesting to me. the one in goodfellas is shot with the same dynamism and excitement of that entire film. the one in casino, by contrast, is ugly and brutal, with the final shots out of something like the killing fields — PolitiTweet.org

b-boy bouiebaisse @jbouie

maybe once i get to the irishman in this scorsese watch i’m doing, i’ll have a sense of what i want to say — PolitiTweet.org

b-boy bouiebaisse @jbouie

this has nothing to do with the tweet (which is good) but having recently rewatched both movies i feel like there’s a piece to write about the “joe pesci’s character gets whacked” scenes in goodfellas and casino. — PolitiTweet.org

i think it is so cool that casey is getting people into lifting, which i have found to be fun, edifying, and challenging in the best way — PolitiTweet.org

@eric_hurwitz @yourewrongabout this is made up bullshit that is debunked by literally reading anything substantive about the philadelphia convention — PolitiTweet.org

b-boy bouiebaisse @jbouie

@eric_hurwitz @yourewrongabout and what does "sway" the election even mean? are people who live in populous states not americans? — PolitiTweet.org

b-boy bouiebaisse @jbouie

@eric_hurwitz @yourewrongabout do you understand that there are as many voters in the rural and exurban parts of the country as are in the urban and suburban parts? that a candidate who "won" new york and "won" california could still lose if they could not get enough votes elsewhere? — PolitiTweet.org

b-boy bouiebaisse @jbouie

@eric_hurwitz @yourewrongabout why wouldn't they be able to sway the election? again, california does not vote. the people in california vote. usually it is a 60-40 split. and "winning" california would not matter if you do not have enough votes to get a majority nationwide. — PolitiTweet.org
