@gracels @Popehat I'm trying to persuade you because you seem like a person who is amenable to reason and shares many of my core values. In any event, What About MTGism is rather irrelevant to anything we were discussing. — PolitiTweet.org

After careful international analysis of COVID-19 deaths rates I've concluded that the U.S. needs to dig moats around the 49 non-island states and Washington, D.C., so that all are islands. — PolitiTweet.org

@gracels @Popehat I don't doubt you, but in my experience, the degree to which most people are willing to protect human rights is directly proportional to the degree to which they believe universal empathy is a better approach than selective empathy. — PolitiTweet.org

@gracels @Popehat Wouldn't an orientation of "it's good to have empathy for everyone as fellow fallen humans" rather than "only the worthy deserve empathy" result in a more reliable commitment to opposing things like prison rape and police brutality and torture? — PolitiTweet.org

@gracels "Nurse during Covid" doesn't fit my definition of cowardice, and *unwittingly failed to be good parents* (if that's so) is definitely a category for whom I have empathy! But I get the feeling we're not going to agree. — PolitiTweet.org

@gracels They did their best, while raising five kids, teaching school, and nursing the sick back to health during a pandemic. Now their only lives are over and their 5 children are orphaned. One was widowed before that happened. If you can't summon empathy for that I don't get why. — PolitiTweet.org

@davequast Not sure a water park--I assume Raging Waters in San Dimas, which is all outdoors--is especially risky, or that, in the medium to long run, it's a degree of rusk anyone who wants to live a normal life can avoid. But we can all get vaccinated. — PolitiTweet.org

One great thing about empathy is that it's an inexhaustible resource. In fact, cultivating the habit of feeling it for some people can make it easier to have for other people, rather than harder. But many people have contrary intuitions. Clarifying the truth could do lots of good — PolitiTweet.org

@NickCho I'm curious to understand what you mean specifically, because I'm disinclined, at first blush, to think that there are many issues that divide us neatly along a privileged/oppressed axis. Both political parties are coalitions of people in both groups aren't they? — PolitiTweet.org

One of so many heartbreaking stories, shared with two purposes: to underscore that it's sensible to get vaccinated, and to have empathy and compassion for unvaccinated people who get Covid-19. https://t.co/RjLMTzElSP — PolitiTweet.org
