In the data folder you'll find two files, direct-message-headers.js and direct-message-group-headers.js. This is your DM metadata (a list of IDs of your DMs), not the actual messages. When you delete DMs, you delete them for YOU, but the recipient will still have them in their account. If you BOTH delete them, no one (but Twitter) knows if Twitter still retains your deleted DMs or for how long — PolitiTweet.org
