the core issue is that the Pixel 3 uses a Qualcomm chip and Qualcomm, not Google, decides when to stop supporting its processors. the Pixel 6 doesn’t use a Qualcomm chip, hence Google can provide longer support. — PolitiTweet.org

i appreciate this article’s overall point and what it’s saying about how poorly supporting phones is irresponsible on the manufacturers, but it falls short explaining _why_ the Pixel 6 is the first Google phone to have more than three years of support https://t.co/O8LF3eOKKU — PolitiTweet.org

why does this matter to anyone? because if you’re buying a phone and want better support, knowing why one phone gets it and another doesn’t helps inform your purchasing decision. Apple makes its own chips, hence longer support! Google does now too, same deal. — PolitiTweet.org
