An account can display that it is verified as a real person many other ways than just assigning the same verification that indicates someone is a public figure/media fixture, etc — PolitiTweet.org

@ursupremleader To verify that that is in fact their account. Beyond that, typically a public figure or celebrity is that because people want to follow them. When I see a blue check & don’t know the person, my first instinct is to research why they have a blue check. Now- it won’t mean anything. — PolitiTweet.org
