Tradition has it that the ferry across the Forth was initiated in the 11th century by Margaret, Queen of Scots, (now St Margaret) to help pilgrims on their way to Dunfermline and St Andrews. So it ran for about 900 years before the Road Bridge was built in the 1960s. — PolitiTweet.org
