@authorpetermay Mrs Ross was based on an old lady who visited my Dad when he was the manager of the DHSS office at Anderston in Glasgow. He served her tea when she came in to make a claim. Dad makes a cameo as ‘Mr Conrad’ the bank manager. So called as Conrad was his favourite author. — PolitiTweet.org

@authorpetermay Ah I’m so pleased you did Peter. There were two books - ‘Mrs Ross’ and the sequel ‘A Flight of Steps’. Penguin renamed Mrs R ‘The Whisperers’ after the movie came out. I thought the film with Edith Evans so so but loved the radio drama starring Effie Morrison. — PolitiTweet.org
