But yes - totally agree one sounds better than the other…I would just not know, as a reader, if you’d said “refused” because they were unusually jerkish or said “refused” just because that’s the word you habitually use for refusals/declines. — PolitiTweet.org

@robyndoolittle I would myself not understand a difference between declined and refused. I’d guess they meant the same thing and the “refused” reporter was just being gentler in describing the refusal than the “declined” reporter. — PolitiTweet.org
