Between the 60's and 80's the majority of rare earth production was done not in China, but in the USA at the Mountain Pass Mine in CA. This has already been re-opened and could ramp up production immediately in case of a Chinese embargo. — PolitiTweet.org

But this would basically be like China subsidizing manufacturing because they are making less on rare earths with lower prices. In the long run, it is unsustainable and will cost them more than dropping tariffs on US goods. — PolitiTweet.org
