FWIW, in 2008 I interviewed former Vice President Walter Mondale and asked why there was no VP debate in 1980, after initial 1976 event. Said he was willing and eager to debate GOP nominee George H.W. Bush, but Carter and Reagan campaign negotiators were both hostile to the idea. — PolitiTweet.org
