so it's not that the desire to resolve the addiction isn't there; addicts know having an addiction sucks. it's just that they need it for the time being. hitting rock bottom just means the addiction is now worse than the other problem. that's not great either. — PolitiTweet.org

i guess my view is that in some -- i lean toward 'most', but certainly not all -- addictions, the addiction is doing something for the person, either treating some underlying condition (MI, pain, shitty life circumstance, trauma, etc) and that's gotta be resolved first — PolitiTweet.org

so i do believe an earlier intervention can work, so long as it takes the view that the addiction is a method with some kind of utility that's got to be replaced with something else (something that doesn't make the person's life worse.) then you can miss rock bottom. ideally. — PolitiTweet.org
