@rasmansa McWhorter is a linguist who has a very specific reading pedagogy in mind: phonics, which he judges to be a superior method of teaching. I don't know if he's right (it's how I learned to read, FWIW) but I don't see how that kind of expert judgment is "ugly". — PolitiTweet.org
